REPORT ON THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON STANDARDIZATION AND INNOVATION Geneva (Switzerland), 13‐14 November 2014
Innovation is widely recognized as one of the essential drivers of successful business and a key contributor to a nation’s productivity and economic and social development. Finding ways of fostering innovation is a central concern for both forward-thinking companies and governments. In many countries there is a strong focus on public funding of research and development and on intellectual property rights (IPR) as instruments of innovation policy and business strategy. Whilst it is clear that economic and societal benefits from research can only be achieved through their successful transfer into innovative products and processes, this critical aspect – which is the one to which standardization contributes most – is often neglected.

The Future ISO37001: Anti-bribery management system
The standard will help establish that the organization has implemented reasonable and proportionate measures designed to prevent bribery. These measures include leadership from the top, training, risk assessment, due diligence, financial and commercial controls, reporting, audit and investigation. The future ISO 37001 is being developed in a similar format to other management systems standards such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The hope is for the standard to be easily recognized by many companies and implemented in much the same way as the other successful management systems.

Fly the Flag : Building a Sustainable Future
“Sustainability” is one of the world’s most talked about but least understood words. Its meaning is often clouded by differing interpretations and by a tendency for the subject to be treated superficially. For most companies, countries and individuals who do take the subject seriously the concept of sustainability embraces the preservation of the environment as well as critical development-related issues such as the efficient use of resources, continual social progress, stable economic growth, and the eradication of poverty.
