Sustainable Health Code of Practice

Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony, that permit fulfilling the social, economic and other requirements of present and future generations. Human health plays an integral role on human existence and development, therefore an omnipresent and undeniable link exists between human health and sustainability. This relationship has been established specially in four systematic impacts: population, food shortage, natural disasters and climate change.
A "sustainable health" is achieved by delivering high quality care and improved public health without exhausting natural resources or causing severe ecological damage. Sustainable health is at the heart of the MDGs (UN Millennium development Goal ) and Universal Health Coverage offers a way of sustaining gains and protecting investments in the current set of health-related MDGs – providing a vehicle for sustained technical and financial support after 2015( Post Agenda 2015).
The “Sustainable Health Programme is a framework outlined a number oftransformational shifts required for a more sustainable health and care system.

"Sustainable Health Programme" are voluntary and inspirational. Its offer a Sustainable Health Code of practice" of necessary actions for incorporating Sustainable Development issues into practices across Industries Categories. Sustainable health code of practice is a process that must be tailored to fit each organization’s strategy, approach and resources.

A “Code of Practice” is a set of written rules which explains how people working in a particular profession should behave. And code of practice for sustainable health is a practical guide to achieving the standards of health, safety and welfare required under international standards and work related regulations. (Such as Local Labor Laws)
In “Sustainable Health Code of practice” , organizations have a duty to act in the best long-term interests of our beneficiaries  and believe that environmental, social, and economy issues can affect the their performance.
This Programme involves ‘greening’ the health sector with particular attention to human health care (physically, mentally, welfare), energy, travel, waste, procurement, water, infrastructure adaptation and building’s related industries.
In addition the Programme describes working across the health system and partners to deliver health care that deliver on the triple bottom line i.e. simultaneous financial, social and environmental return on investment and finally the broadest level of this Programme involves considering the sustainability of everything that impact on health and well-being (e.g. education, farming, banking etc.).
